Overview of Freckles, Sun Spots
Ultraviolet solar radiation is the reason for the appearance of freckles and sunspots on the skin. Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light devices target the dark pigment in the skin selectively and break it down. It is then reabsorbed and excreted by the body through natural processes.
Pigmentation disorders are often posing more challenges in the skin of color. Common pigmented skin conditions treated regularly at our clinics include:
- Moles, Freckles & Sun Spots.
- Hormonal Pigmentation (Malasma).
- Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).
- Dermal Nevi (Flat Moles).
- Becker Naevus.
- Poikiloderma of Civatte.
We make use of state of the art, medical grade, world-renowned Laser & Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Platforms for the treatment of sun-damaged skin.
WE ALSO MAKE USE OF MEDICAL STRENGTH SKIN PEELS FOR THE TREATMENT OF VARIOUS SKIN PIGMENTATIONS.
Important Note: All Laser and IPL devices are not the same. For the general public, it is important to understand that only the dermatological grade and medical strength Laser and IPL platforms can deal with pigmentary skin lesions in an effective way with the least risk of burning, scarring, and pain. Ensure to trust your skin to qualified medical professionals only.
Freckles, Sun Spots FAQs
Choosing an appropriate treatment for yourself depends upon:
- Your skin type.
- The extent of sun damage.
- Budget restrictions.
- Social downtime restrictions.
Patients with very dark skin types cannot be exposed to IPL treatments as there is a risk of burning and darkening of skin pigment.
In the same way, patients who are not able or not willing to have red, swollen skin for a few days after a strong laser or IPL cannot be treated using high energy treatments.
At the time of your initial consultation, we will be able to give you advice about the best treatment option available for you based on the factors stated above.
This depends upon the type of treatment your clinician chooses for you. Some high energy treatments may resolve the problem in as little as one session. For low energy treatments, multiple sessions (about 3 to 5) are generally needed.
Most patients feel that Laser or IPL treatments are somewhat uncomfortable but not so painful that they cannot be tolerated. At our clinics, we make sure our patients can experience treatments as painlessly as possible. To achieve this, we make use of:
- Topical numbing creams.
- Cool air.
UV radiations from excessive sun exposure are the reason for you having freckles and sun-damaged skin. It is essential to avoid direct sun exposure after any skin treatment for the first few days and then use clothing, headgear, and sunscreens that provide protection against the sun to prevent future sun damage.
